Speedo/Odo dead... not the usual.
So the speedo and odo are dead. I pull the cluster, and discover that the speedo cable wasn't even plugged in
![]() Put that in, still no speedo. Take everything out, and drive around with my fingers on the speedo cable. No movement. I assume that the cable was broken. But it wasn't. I pulled out the old cable today, and spinning one end propels the other. Hmm. So apparently something in the transmission is toast? I seem to recall seeing a thread about that before... In unrelated news I have a brand new speedo cable for sale. |

Please note what year and model your car is, and the transmission.

Might be a stripped plastic gear in the tail housing of the transmission, that is what drives the speedo cable.
