Pure gasoline would have done less damage, and flashed off faster.
They still have two pumpers running, fighting the smoldering flare fires more than 24 hours later...

My connection is questionable today, had to post them fast the first time.

All power and cable connections ran through that bridge superstructure.

I am pleasantly surprised cable service was restored at 2:00 PM, and that their patch is working this well at the moment.

I was about to say, that's not far from you at all!

At market value that was nearly $45,000 worth of fuel that went up in that fire! Wow....not to mention a probably $150,000-200,000 truck.

Brand-new driver blamed in I-75 wreck

http://www.freep.com/article/20090716/NEWS05/907160605/1007/Police-made-drivers-in-explosive-I-75-wreck

MDOT today awarded an emergency $84,000 contract to Posen Construction of Utica to demolish the remainder of the bridge and remove all debris from the freeway.

Morosi said it wasn't clear how quickly MDOT could bid a contract to replace the overpass.
He estimated it would cost as much as $2 million for a new one.

That's why they're bonded and insured.

Bummer. One happened in GR Michigan a few years ago, tanker came loose from the tractor and caught fire on the bridge, burning fuel dripping into the Grand River below. The bridge was not severly (structurally) damaged fortunately.

Good thing nobody was seriously hurt or killed. This looks like it had the potential to be fatal.

Yeah I remember that, it burned down a house below the freeway, but the overpass did not have any major damage.
