Installation of oil pressure line
Haha, so I'm installing this oil pressure line and how the heck do I get the other end onto the gauge? I managed to get the oil filter housing end on, but the back of the gauge doesn't seem easily accessible.
Would it just be easier to install a rubber hose from the end of the new one to the back of the old one? Please help, this car has been lying around for almost 2 weeks and I would love to get it running again. Thanks Last edited by bbjornson; 07-22-2009 at 08:41 PM. |

Pull the cluster, its very easy. Two hooks along each side and pull.
Don't do any hack jobs with the oil pressure line or you will have oil all over.... ![]()

It`s a 10mm and a 13mm, use both wrenches. the 13 for a back up to take the stress off the gauge. 10 for the oil fitting.
X2, just push the gauge out from the back if you don`t have hooks. remove the under dash panel. Charlie

The hooks can cause damage, a safer way is too remove the panel above the driver's knees and push the instrument cluster out. Release the clamp holding the spedo cable in the engine compartment also too give yourself max room.

True dat. One of my first tasks with my TD was to clean out all the oil from such a hack job (never mind the six hose clamps the POS mechanic used) and replace the line.

Well, I did both things wrong. I hadn't read any replies so I did the hose thing. Worked at first until I took a ride, then realized that my oil pressure dropped. So I raced back home and shut the car off, looked back and saw a trail of oil going as far as I could see. Then I tried using the hook thing and ended up just hurting my fingers with old wire hangers and scratching up my dash. Finally I got the gauge cluster out but couldn't find my 10mm wrench. My 108-piece set was totally complete besides that wrench. I had taken it out earlier for this job and now couldn't find it.
Anyway, I finally got everything back together and added some oil. Runs fine now. I still have to fix a leaky coolant hose but besides that I'm ready to go. Oh, and replace a bent tie rod, and this, and that.... Thanks for the help everyone - you're the best forum I've encountered online |

"Racing" is the last thing you want to do when you have no oil pressure, or an indication of no oil pressure. When that happens, step on the wide pedal, not the narrow one.

And, other people must be haveing the same problem as I went to the store that sells cheap tools and has individual wrenches in bins so you can buy a singal wrench if you need one. I figured to buy 2-3 or so but there was not even one Dam 10mm Wrench left! Evidence that others are suffering with the same problem.

I would remove the end you attached to the Oil Filter Housing 1st.
Instead of Hooks I removed the Kick Panel under the Steering Colum and push my Gauge Cluster Out from the insde out. (There is actually a Thread where some one did a Thread on how Member pop out their Gauge Cluster.) Having the Oil Pressure Tubing Loose on the Oil Filter End may allow you more room to to work with the Gauge end.

Weird. On the W126 you can't really push it out from below. I've never had to remove it on the W123....
