Installation of oil pressure line

Haha, so I'm installing this oil pressure line and how the heck do I get the other end onto the gauge? I managed to get the oil filter housing end on, but the back of the gauge doesn't seem easily accessible.

Would it just be easier to install a rubber hose from the end of the new one to the back of the old one?

Please help, this car has been lying around for almost 2 weeks and I would love to get it running again.
