Needs Lower ball joints and center link

Well, I found the cause for the inner tire wear on the left front tire...

I took the car to my VERY local alignment shop...Pro Align in Greenville, TX. They are next door to where I work.

This shop does not nickle and dime you on parts, etc. They do not mind you bringing parts to them for them to install. These guy work on big rigs and take care of the city's cars

Anyway, they found the passenger lower ball joint is bad...I heard popping, but thought is was engine mounts getting weak...hmmm...I guess the sound is quite similar, and the center link was bent. The guy said everything else was good, but it would be a good idea to replace both lower ball joints. There was no charge for the service.

Well, parts are ordered and I will be doing the work next weekend. Then the car will go back for an alignment. I don't have the proper MB tool, so Meyle LBJ's were ordered. I have access to a press at work, so I will be removing the knuckles and pressing the joints in at work. I will have to "rent" the tie joint puller from Auto Zoo.

Jimmy, wanna help out with more front steering/suspension work?

Hmm, Are bad lower ball joints known for causing inner tire wear ALONE? Are do they need to be coupled with bad UCAs as well? I'm trying to track down my inner tire wear issue on the same left front, and know I have a ball joint going...but I don't want to replace everything piecemeal if I need to replace the UCAs, LCAs, etc etc etc...

W123 experts? =D

Any idea how that center link got bent??? That sounds rough!

It's been my experience that the W123 front-end generally seems to last about 200-250K before they need to be "rebuilt".

I don't think you are going to find that a single ball joint is your problem - hope you do but I'm betting against it!!!

See if that shop will swap out the LBJ's on the car, the local place here did so.

They will, but I do not have the extra coin to pay for the labor. Two kids starting college next month...

^^Ah, you'll need an alignment anyway, how are the rotors?

Rotors and pads are fine. I will be servicing the bearings though. UCA's and sway bar bushings were replaced last year.
