Could it be a trans mount? Could it be something in the exhaust system? Running out of time because I leave for Knoxville next Friday and I don't want to have to drive the Taurus.
Is the exhaust loose? Is one of the noise encapsulation panels loose and vibrating?

Just checked and sound panels are tight and exhaust hangers are all intact. I'm not feeling any steering wheel vibration when I drive it. Car tracks straight. If I were to point to where the vibration was coming from, I'd point to the back seat. I know ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings and other front end stuff hasn't been changed in the 130,000 I've owned it.

Likely the mid-shaft bearing on the driveshaft, or flex-disks.

Get under the car and muscle the shaft around to see if there's slop, and do a visual on the disks

My egr valve is wired open and the vacuum line to it is plugged. Do you suppose this might be causing the vibration? It has been wired open for a few months and the roaring/vibration only started about a month ago. Does the egr do any of the control on the flaps on the crossover?

American Service Center in Arlington replaced rear flex disk and transmission mount. Smooth as glass now. Its feels like a new car. They also took care of the safety inspection and I have a new sticker! They washed it and vacuumed the inside. I tend to forget how many miles these cars can rack up. 35k since last new tires, 60k since last flex disk, x years since last new battery, etc. My old 1977 Chevy Caprice lasted 77,000 total miles and then died.
