Comparing 85 300D to Others

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I am going to look at an 85 300D. My experience has been with 84 and earlier 300's and 240's. I know they changed some things in 85. My 300's both have heating and electrical issues but mechanically are ok. Are there any things that are better, same or worse on the 85's as compared to the 83's?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the link. Anyone else with some imput on the transmission, cruise control, heater controls, electrical system as far as how they hold up compared to the others. I guess they must be pretty much the same as the 84.

I own both a 1982 300d and a 1985 300d. I would say the changes made in the '85 make it a nicer to drive and simpler to maintain. The higher stall converter and 2.88 diff are a nice combination, as well as the simplified transmission vacuum controls. The reliability of both cars is about the same, but I would say the '85 is a better package altogether.

When you are dealing with cars this old, condition is more important than year....

That said, 85 is considered the best of the 82-85 300D turbo sedans.

The high stall converter in a car with the 3.07 diff is a blast! It hauls like crazy off the line. I just put a 1985 trans/torque converter in my SD....

My dad's '83 has a 2.47 diff + a high stall converter and its actually quite quick.....it'd be much worse with the low-stall converter.
