My 84 was originally in Texas, then in Atlanta. Now in PA. It came to me without the hood pad and I assumed it was taken out to let the heat escape a little better. I have not intalled one and have not had any problems. I suppose it would be a little quieter with a hood pad but other than that I have not seen any reason to install one. Am I missing something?

It also saves the clear coat on your hood from engine heat.
