How difficult is it to have injectors tested?
How much trouble is it to have the opening pressure tested on diesel injectors? I have 4 new nozzles for a 240D that I want to put in the old style holders (came off a 220) I assume that I will have to have them bench tested to get the pressure right. Can any diesel shop do this? And does anyone know the correct opening pressure for injectors on a 74 240D?

I would suggest trying to find a Bosch authorized diesel shop, stopping by and discuss it with them.

Any diesel shop can test and adjust them for you -- spec is by the number stamped on the holder. You will probably only have to pay shop rate for the actual installation and adjustment since you are providing the nozzles.

So if the old holder from the 240D said 135bar (I think that was it), then I should have these adjusted to that? The 220 Holders say something like 115 bar. I suppose that a couple of shims should be able to make up that difference.

Set them for the application -- 135 bar sounds about right -- MB has used the same opening pressure, to my knowledge, for quite some time, both on turbo and non-turbo models. The shop should be able to set them correctly for whatever you intend to use them in.
Opening pressure is set by shimming a spring in the holder on these injectors. Might need a different spring if you intend to use them in something radically different than what they came out of -- I don't know that much about internals on them. Peter
