This is frustrating. I know the best thing to do is to either change frames or change connectors, but i don't have the time right now.
I'm just trying to move the seats, so I ran two wires from the battery, and touched the opposite pins on the seats pins as was suggested in a previous post I found, and...NOTHING! Does anyone have any more advice? Can I just run the 2 wires from the battery to the seat motors? And if so where on the motors? The biggest problems are recline and height. Want to take it down to san diego this weekend and get a recharge of R-12, and fix the center vent issue, but 2 hours in this drivers seat as it is will not happen. Thanks guys!

Do any of the motors work when supplied with 12V from the battery? They should... If you are just trying to operate one motor, and it's not working, then the motor is likely bad.

I don't know how to supply 12V to the motor directly.
The motors work, at least the ones that move front/back, and headrest...these work when the cars seat harnesses are connected to the seats pins. Recline motor works....works briefly, but only when hitting the memory 2 button when the cars seat harnesses are connected to the seats pins. not sure about the height adjust, but supplying power to the motor will let me know. I know this should be easy, and I can take the seat out if I need to for access to the motors.

Cool! I live in the SFV!
Forgive me for being newbish, but I thought it was just a simple matter of plug and chug.... What DO you need to do if you are going to replace the front seats? Suggest keeping your old seats?

I should have kept the seat frame with my original motors and the connectors that fit my cars wiring. The problem was that I went from '84--->'91. The seats themselves were a HUGE upgrade, and once I get this sorted out it will be nice.

My 84 300SD has a memory drivers seat switch and wiring = a 14-hole plug, a 5-hole plug, and a two hole plug. I can send pictures if you want. I'm sending you a PM.

Waiting for daw to feel better, but am still tring to lower the seat. I have disconnected the seat frame from the seat, and have taken off all (3) of the flexible drivelines that run from the motor to the seat gears. I can manually turn the connectors that the drivelines plug into, but only the seat forward/back turns the gear and moves the seat. The other (2) which I assume are for raise and lower front and back, the gears will not turn. Any help?

Does not match I'm beginning to think the pics you sent me remind me of the seat wiring harness plugs in Coda --- 1986 300SDL; maybe you have Gen II seat wiring harness in your car??? Here are the plugs in the 1982 300SD driver's side seat wiring harness --- only 2 connections; will show the wiring harness and the seat connections. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

1stimer, interesting that you're having so much trouble. I was actually thinking about converting my 82 SD's seats to late model 126 seats. I live in Montebello so if you need assistance, I guess I can meet up with you sometime.

Thanks Daw. Thanks Jason.
Here's the wiring to my drivers seat. It is an 84 with memory switch.

FWIW, those plugs would mate to the seat on my 85.

My 84 just has 10 pin holes, not 14. And the pin holes are LARGER than the ones shown in your pics. From your pics is does appear that you only have 10 active plug holes because 4 of them are black. So perhaps someone already switched out seats in your car and rewired it (if the new wiring was not installed in later 84s and 85s) . I am guessing either way (use Gen I bases or use Gen II bases) you are going to have to do some re-wiring. If I were you I would attempt to stick with the Gen II bases and do some rewiring so that you current controls work. It may be as simple as taking the current plug apart and moving the metal female part at the end of the wire to different plug holes. You are going to have to apply 12V to the pins on the seat to see which pin functions for what and then take a voltmeter and see which holes give power when the buttons are depressed and then match the holes and pins up correctly. Or you could take the female holes out of the plug two at a time and put them on the seat motor pins and press the buttons and see what happens. When you have them all lined up correctly, put the females in the corresponding holes in the plug and put the plug on. Problem solved. For me, I am swapping out bases because my plugs are completely different than yours and I already have the bases. I do have to splice the back tilt wires from the new seat to the old base but that is all the rewiring I should have to do (unless I want the power head rest function).
