Fuel filter problem?

Morning. Car has been running great untill this morning. Had the tank almost empty no reserve light yet. Sounded like engine was scavaging for fuel on the uphill. Put some fuel in it now new problem. Petal to the floor it runs up to 4200 1st and 2nd then falls of and just barely makes 60mph need to let up at that point. I have 10k on filters in engine bay what others are in line?

If you have 10K miles on the filters I would change them. This time of year is when you get lots of condensation in the tanks and that means water. It can collect in the fuel filter (low point) and that's why I change mine every year at this time of year to avoid that. You could also have stirred up some crud at the bottom of your tank by running it low on fuel which would also clog up the filter...start there and see if it helps, if not, then you might want to look at the tank screen.

Change of season aka filters...

Concur w/NHDOC...just changed mine yesterday and difference is notable...sounds like you need to clean out the sending unit to make that reserve light come on!

If changing the Filters does not work the Screen at the bottom of the Fuel Tank could be restricted by crud.

Which can be determined by switching inlet and return hoses in the engine compartment and seeing if the problem goes away. If it does, plugged tank screen.

I should of looked thru the DIY's first as stated. Thanks for replys. This is my main mode of transport, so I got alittle jumpy. I now history of this car, and screen has never been touched. I have run tank down for the last 10K since getting it on the road again after over heat. Car was used very infrequently prior to me and sat in a heated garage. I have also used Lubrobor addi. and some Power Service . These probably aided in releasing scum in tank.

I normally replace mine every fall to avoid potential freezing of accumulated water. Thanks for the reminder.

X2!!!

It seems that few people realize that the filter is also a water separator and has a finite capacity for water.

do a google search on a product call Pri-D. Usually I don't believe in mechanics in a bottle, but i do believe in this stuff. I burn home heating oil in my 99 e300 td. I get it where ever I can find it (people looking to sell it once they convert to nat gas, etc). I use the pri-d with every fill up as a precaution due to never really being sure of the condition of the fuel I get. Stuff really does everything it claims to do.
