Anyone ever have a runaway diesel?
I was reading a recent post about diesel fuel leaking into the oil system on on member's car. A few posters warned about the danger of a runaway diesel engine.
I had this happen to me with a VW Rabbit with extreme blowby. The CV system managed to put enough oil back into the the intake that the engine would not stop when the key was turned off. Fortunately, it was a 4-speed manual. After using the emergency brake to slow the car and getting the car into second, I let out the clutch and stood and the brakes, and the engine stalled. This happened just north of Ithaca, NY with a state trooper behind me. Luckily, he had a sense of humor. When the runaway happened, it put out a huge cloud of smoke. The trooper asked me if I was James Bond trying to lose him with a smoke screen. Has anyone else had the experience of a runaway diesel?
