Opinions on retiring 240D

Well, I have reached a point where I need to do something about my 240D. I live where I can't really work on an old car, or plug it in, and I have to drive to get to work. Also, the car has some (probably) terminal issues. I would like to sell the car, but I don't have a replacement car yet. If someone wanted to buy it, I could certainly get on buying a car. I think that 700 bucks or so might be fair. I drive the car everyday, so it does still run and drive. I thought I would list it here because the people in the diesel forums are actually going to have a clue what to do with this old car.

Anyway, I wanted to get opinions on what to do with her, and also, if someone is interested feel free to PM me or, for faster response, e-mail me at

I live in St. Joseph, MO which is 45 miles or so North of K.C.
Let me tell you about the car.

1979 240D Maroon
4-speed manual
106xxx miles on odometer (no way to know)

The good:
Good running engine and transmission
4 new bridgestone tires
less than one year on: new battery, injectors, pin-style glow plug upgrade
Working York compressor A/C (charged with 134a)
manual sunroof, windows, door locks, A/C and heater control

The bad:
rust
rust
engine burns some oil with blowby
rust

The ugly:
the passenger side sway bar mount (by the firewall) got all rusted out and corroded apparently by an old leaky battery and broke off. So, the guide rod is not attached on that side. Not good.

I definitely did not list everything here (good or bad) but this is what comes to mind. So, basically, it's a rolling parts car right now. If you fixed the sway bar mount it might be usable as a winter beater, but it's not worth dumping money at. I don't just want to send the car to the crusher, it seems like it would be worth more than that to someone on this site. I will craigslist it once I have another car, but I just wanted some opinions, and figured it might be useful to someone on this site.

Thank you so much for all your help.
