That's a really nice looking car -- $900....dang - I must be looking in the wrong places, as I never run across some of the deals I read about on this forum!
What's the secret and where do you folks find these deals -- please share, please....

Ask him what that third line going into the back of the light switch is, thanks. My guess is the ground, but on newer switches that is on the other side.

Dads and sons
Interesting. My dad couldn't care less about cars, but I horrified him when I told him about the car I wanted for my first car. He tried to talk me out of it, but it was a model that had been on my wish list since I was 10 or 11 years old. Mazda RX2. I went against my dad's adcivice, then lived to regret it. Car lasted 4 weeks - then asploded! Dad must have said "I told you so" at least 30 times. But he took me out and leased me, a nice sensible brand new Mazda...GLC.
I envied boys who's father actually did things with them. Well, I guess my dad did things with me too. Yelled, ridiculed, teased, etc. Anyways, I seem to be in a mood today. I look forward to following your project!

I've always helped my father with various projects (Working on the cars, building sheds, mixing concrete etc etc) However when I wanted to buy a Land Rover as my first car I got the ass kicking of a life time

Just in case he doesn't get back to you . THAT IS A HOT WIRE!!!!!! The switch switches the hot going to the light. That wire is taking hot from the hot side of the switch to some other fixture. Thanks

Thanks Doc and dean (replied, forgot about the non working door bell tho). Turns out the switch is okay, but thinking it needed replacing, I pulled it from the box, and seeing something I hadn't before, thought I'd ask. I did put it back and the two outside lights work. Oh, the door bell doesn't tho, no button on the back door. Should the bottom spring be extended?
Sorry for the highjack.

It's easy to take things for granted, but it's also good to stop and remind them, and yourself, how fortunate you are. I remember when I was young, my Dad would always make me go to the garage and help him work on the cars. That usually involved me sitting and watching, or holding the light for him and handing him tools when needed. I didn't care for it all that much then but, looking back, it did make a lasting impression on me. My dad passed away when I was fourteen. He's been gone for twenty years now but, honestly, sometimes it seems like only yesterday that we were in the garage together and he was shooting me a sideways glance for shining the light in his eyes and not paying attention to what was going on. I suppose we'd probably have a pretty good laugh about those days if we could. I have my own kids now. My daughter is three and half and my son is one and a half years old. Recently I was doing a valve adjustment while they were both running around playing in the yard. They eventually became interested and wanted to "help." After about ten minutes of trying to shoo them away it finally dawned on me. I went into the garage and pulled out a couple of crates for them to stand on. My son got to hold the wrenches, and my daughter, the feeler gauges. The job probably took twice as long as it should have, but in the end we all got something more than a simple valve adjustment out of the ordeal. Don't miss those opportunities, they won't always be there.

Yeah....I'm too embarrassed to post pictures of the $1000 SD I picked up. Nice ones are out there...just have to be more patient than I was. Nice score, btw. My son is 6 and I have him out there with me when I'm working on the cars. I hope he develops an interest.

To operate pump unlock the knurled part CCW till it is free. After pumping, priming, turn CW and lock. Common for them to leak fuel out or suck air in so something U will need to replace as you go along. Don't let fuel tank go empty and you won't have to use this. It's good to pump it when you change filters however. Good luck with your Son with the car. I paid lots more for mine.

You might as well be carrying a sign that says
Hey, that site isn't completely useless. I entered a drawing, and won a free pop tester! There directions are great for the Novice, novice. But I consider myself an advanced Novice.

If anyone has ever been banned from this site for discussing competing vendors I'm certainly not aware of it. Since the beginning of this forum, the sponsors have ALWAYS appeared to be way too classy for that.
Every time I see the slightest MENTION of a competing vendor on this forum I just shake my head. I wonder if the same person that will come on this forum and discuss the forums competitors would walk into their local auto supply and start telling the other customers where there are better suppliers in town? It just seems EXTREMELY rude to me. If you need a part and get advice or help here, why not buy the part here? Even if it costs more to buy the part here, which I doubt is true very often or by much of a margin, buy the part here and consider the help you got from this site as customer service. Is there a parts store in your town that has such a wealth of knowledge as can be found on this site? I doubt it. Is the other online vendor giving you valuable troubleshooting information for free? Probably not. If your conscience will let you come here for help and then buy the part somewhere else, why not just go buy the part and keep your mouth shut (or your fingers off the keyboard) and not rub it in? |
