Thanks for the tip. I'd prefer to buy local and none of the local suppliers carry Viton hose. I'll check back with them about the other stuff. I have a feeling I may still have to buy it off the internet.

You can buy the SAE30R9 hose bulk from a lot of places, a hose and fitting shop might have it if the local parts houses don't. Greaseworks also sells this stuff in bulk as well a viton in bulk. It's a lot cheaper that way. But you won't get all the clamps and pre-cut hoses.

I've been running B100 most of the time these last 5 years. I've replaced the return lines at least once but no more than twice with standard braided hose. But what about the other hoses? Should I be worrying?

Biodiesel300TD 11-13-2011 12:45 PM

Biodiesel breaks down rubber slowly. It will make rubber into a gooey mess. I'd at least look at them for now, and keep an eye on them. Give all your fuel hoses a squeeze. They should be firm, if they are at all soft or weeping it probably time for new fuel hoses. The stock hoses will last for quite some time, but they won't last as long a viton or viton lined hose.

POST #16 mentions "clamps"(?) Are there clamps for the return lines? Does anyone use those tiny zip-ties, just as an extra measure against leaks? Thanks in advance for your replies/opinions.

It's been over a year since I've replaced any fuel hoses on the 300. I've been running B99.9 off and on with standard hose, and some of the hoses are due again. I don't put clamps on the little injector return lines.

No clamps are needed if you use the correct size hose. 1/8" or 3mm ID.

I just placed an order with Greaseworks for the Viton return line kit (only $20) and some bulk 30R9 hose for the rest of the fuel system. The two soft lines under the fuel tank look like they'll be lots of fun.

I Got Hose!

The order showed up today. It's getting dark already so I'll tackle it in the morning.

Greaseworks is cheaper at $3/ft - http://www.greaseworks.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=27_43_45&products_id=214
They also have a injector return line kit with a viton endcap, as well as kits for the whole car - http://www.greaseworks.com/store/index.php?cPath=27_41

down to $2.70 ft. Just for my edification, this replaces the braided return lines on my OM606.910? The ones that are under the plastic head cover? Mine is leaking, the one that pokes out from under the cover in the front and I want to replace them all. How much do I need for this? Anything else required (hose clamps)? Its been awhile since I've had it apart to recall.

Yup it will work on 61x and 60x engines. Get about 5ft and and end cap and you'll be set. No clamps needed.

I left a message the other day with greaseworks.com and have not heard back yet, I don't have high confidence ordering from them because the outgoing message sounds distracted not professional. What end cap is needed?

thanks :)

I know the owner pretty well. The phone is not a good way to get a hold of him. He's a full service and custom VW diesel shop with a full online store front. It's just him and another guy in the shop and they both are turning wrenches all day, so the phone gets neglected sometimes. He'll usually responds to emails pretty quickly, and if you keep calling he'll answer eventually:P. You can order everything online as well, but I know some folks like to talk to a real person.

This end cap is the one you want. It's included in the injector return line kits, but it you buy bulk hose you'll have to buy the end cap separate.

Thanks, you should advise him to change his outgoing message for his business to something a little more professional and perhaps specify that email is the best way to reach him. First impressions last. :)

I swear that viton end cap was not there the other day, I did a search and it was not listed. Thanks, will be ordering today and hope to get it soon
