1982 300Sd Some guy painted his name on my car?? "Pierre"
This is not really a problem but more of a discovery.
On the back of the drunk lid at 5'Clock under the words "Turbo Diesel" there is a real tiny signature in yellow and it says "Pierre". My car was signed at the factory?? There is no way I doubt somebody could sign his name this small but it looks real. No way I could. Were these cars signed when they were painted at the factory? I think my paint is original the way it looks. Sort of cool too. Wonder what Piere is doing now a days? Thanks for anything you may know about this. Steve |
Is your car pinstriped? It might be his signature, those guys can write pretty small.
|
Thanks Craig,
I believe you figured it out! I did not know this was done on cars at the factory at Mercedes. Maybe mine was painted in France? Joking. If I had to do it they would have to repaint the car! Man it is so TINY, oops tiny. Seems like original owner got all the Bling. Chrome over the wheel wells, etc. That explains it. Been wondering a few years now. Steve |
If a German signed it I'd adopt his name for my car as allot of you have done but Pierre seems a bit wrong for a German car.
What do you guys think? " Pierre' for a Benz? |
My 240D has a pinstripe with a little logo painted at the back. I suspect the dealer or the owner had it done after the car was delivered.
|
So after-market. Gotcha.
I still like it. |
MAybe a "dealer option"? I'm just guessing.
|
LOL!!
I wonder it that was "our Pierre"? A Mercedes tech here in Central FL. He might have had his hands on that car at some point in time? |
^^LOL. He would NEVER write on a Mercedes.

Anybody have any pictures of these tiny signatures? Not that I don't believe you guys....
On a related but completely different note, our 79 300D says "Mr Wells" in printed letters on the outer edge of the driver's door. We've been trying to figure out for the last two years why it says "Mr Wells". We have very limited records (and most of the records we do have are in Greek, actually) so don't know if Mr Wells was the name of a previous owner, or perhaps the name of the car. My theory is that Mr Wells was the previous owner, and he belonged to a pretentious country club with valet parking. In order to make the valet service seem particularly sharp, the valet would stick the name of the owner on the driver's side door, so that as they helped the owner out of the car they could greet them by name without having to memorize all of the members. My wife thinks that theory is ridiculous. |
There is a signature, I guess, under the TURBO DIESEL, I'll take a pic when its light again.
