Alternator reinstall question on w115
Hey everyone I'm reinstalling my alternator on my w115 and everything is pretty much back in place except for the last thing... It's the adjusting screw on the top of the alternator that tightens the belt... I can't figure out of how to make it tighten up.. It's just loose and flops around and when I tighten the bolt nothing happens... please help, I want to finish this because it's hot outside... lol

Just did this last week.
Are your other bolts loosened up at all? This needs to happen first, so the whole alternator can "flop around" lol. Then, tighten the adjustment bolt and it will in turn tighten the belt. Once the belt is tight enough, you can tighten the other bolts. If the other alternator bolts are not loose, you wont be able to do much when adjusting the the adjustment bolt.

 So they recommended this place that rebuilds alternators and starters and the guy there tested it for me and said it was charging...So I went home and spiced the wires that were in bad shape and probably causing the problem and now finally putting it all back together... I can't wait to finish! LOL

ugh
It just doesn't end lol
Well I finally got the alternator in the bracket and hooked up all the bolts and asked myself "why is it still moving around even though it's tight? Yup, you guessed it.. It needs alternator bracket bushings now -___________- AND on top of that the bottom oil cooler line is leaking profusely to the point where I need another oil cooler line before I drive anywhere now.. On the plus side my generator light turned off on my dash! the only thing that really sucks is the stupid bushings.. I'm going to have to do this ALL over again and I'm not looking forward to that -____-

Use a 7/8 open end on the oil cooler and a 1 1/16 for the oil lines.
Make a flairnut wrench out of a 1 1/16 box wrench. If the oil cooler threads do strip, there is a repair kit from MB called screwed nipples. for real. Charlie
