converting AT to manual in my 240

My 240 is acting up and has blowback like a steam locomotive so I was considering doing a motor and tranny swap for it. I was wondering how easy it would be to put in a 5cyl turbo motor, what kind of modification would be needed? Also would a 4 speed manual tranny work with the 5cy turbo motor? Curious if anyone has done this before. Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Yes the 617 turbo engine and 240D manual trans will work together.
Installing a 5 cylinder in a 240 will move everything back some.
the manual flywheel will have to be matched balanced to the auto FW.
the 240 front driveline section will have to be cut and rebalanced.
will have to shorten the shift rods.
use the 240D automatic trans X mount

there is a thread running right now on this subject.

I just put a 4-spd in my 85 300D this past April, I have little over 10,000 miles on it. It is a totaly different car.

You'll wanna switch the diff and spped too, plus the rad. and exhaust. Its best to start with a complete donor car so you will have all the little parts needed.
