Rebuilt Injectors friggin' Rock
Been fixing up my beast for a while, and finally got around to pulling the injectors this week. I got a set of Monark nozzles and had a shop in Philly rebuild the injectors...thought I'd do it myself, but there's just not enough time in the day. Anybody need a pop-tester? PM me and let's make a deal.
He said they were totally gummed up, full of junk, and that he couldn't believe my car worked at at all. I threw em in this evening after work, and I couldn't the difference...amazing. The engine was is so quiet...well, maybe not quiet, but I am pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to my first foray onto the highway, and hoping she doesn't struggle quite as much at 65MPH. Next task will be to figure out why the steering hums...yikes...it's never-ending with this car, but the rewards are great!

Yes, I'm up and almost running.

When everything comes in, I'll post a "Injector service going" message in Diesel Discussion. I'm also working with the factory about oil filters without cotton gin scrap. if anyone would be interested?

Well, they originally quoted me $25 per injector to rebuild, which I thought was a deal. Mark, the shop owner happened to be swinging by my house and offered to pick them up. I thought it was too good to be true. When he showed up, I told him I wanted them set at 135 bar, and he got upset and said that the quote he gave me was just to pull the old nozzles and exchange them with the Monarks. I could have done this, and I told him this was unacceptable and that they had to be cleaned, serviced, pop-tested and balanced. He upped the price to $35 per injector. While not thrilled with the change in price, I didn't have much choice with the injectors already pulled on a Saturday morning. He also delivered
them back to my house free of charge on Monday afternoon. FYI, that price was to clean, rebuild, and test... not install them in the car...I did that myself. If I had the time...perhaps a spare set of injectors, I would have sent them to C. Sean Watts or bgkast. I needed them by Monday night for my weekly trip to NYC. It turns out the injectors were full of gummy gunk...total mess. Best $ I've spent so far on the beast. It no longer sends out a massive cloud of smoke when it starts, and it is noticeably quieter and has more giddyup.
