Being able to use CF-4 (my manual recommends CF-4) and greater really opens up the number of choices we have.

Ya.
I used Mobil 1 0w40 once in my TDI (It also meets 505.00). On a subjective note I was not happy. The engine always sounded like it was cold... just a little louder. Since then I've always used a 5w40 product. -J

Why is Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 not 228.31 approved? A lot of people here use it anyway.

228.31 is only needed if you own a Bluetec.

I thought I needed that spec for my 602. What spec do I need? Maybe only API CF?
