300d to 300SD swap QUICK!
I found an 1984 300SD with a bad motor, will my 1983 300D motor and trans drop right in? As I recall the oil pans may be slighly different??
Hope to get an answer soon before the deal goes away

I'm pretty sure the engines are exactly the same.

You'll have to swap out some things such as oil pressure senders and motor mount arms.

Oil senders? Are they not both regular oil filled lines to the gauge? Is the a difference in turbo charger emissions stuff? (California cars).

The SD uses an electrical oil sender, the D uses a mechanical unit.

Much like the oil gauge, the speedometer in the SD is electronic. I believe you'd have to swap tail sections of the transmission, or you could use the SD instrument cluster and run a couple wires which seems like a better option to me.
