W123 front end into a W126?

My neighbor's 1985 300D got rear ended and they're going
to total it. Not long ago he had the entire front end rebuilt.

Could I swap out his front end into my 1984 300SD?

Thanks,
Jeff

Part numbers.

Are they the same? If not then you can't. Sign up for the EPC at Startekinfo, if you haven't already. VERY powerful tool....

I would have to say no, that the parts are not interchangeable, but that is only a guess....

Jay.

Agreed, you'll have to cross reference part #'s.

Most of it will swap. Although, that's a lot of work. It would have to be had for free or close to it.
New FE wear parts are not that expensive. Maybe $200-400 for everything.

ditto.

LCA (maybe) and the spindle / related parts.

..but not the UCA, springs and guide rods.

if the LCA's are swappable, then I'm guessing the outside diamter of w123 and w126 springs are the same, since they'd sit in the same size indentation on the top of the LCA

anyone know for sure whether it's the same p/n?

Spring perch is not part of the LCA.

i was referring to the indentation on the control arm, rather than the perch that's attached to the chassis into which the spring and spring pad fit

its a bolt-on item (lower perch)...

and a simple parts search would reveal that the springs are different as well as the plates used to clamp the springs when removing.

wasn't able to find that in the search--maybe you're better at it than i am--got a link for me to follow?

yeah, i'm pretty sure the mercedes spring removal tool will work on both w123 and w126 springs. the only possible difference is the overall diameter and diameter of the coils, and overall sprung and unsprung height
