The relay is under the dash on my car, just like it is on the early w123's. I just can't find the fuse.

I believe there is no fuse on your system, power goes through #1 fuse (30 amp)
to the timer relay, glow plugs hooked in series.

hmmm, it seem like there has to be a fuse in the system though.

So I wonder why I can only power 3 plugs at the time. If I hook up all 5 NONE of them get power.

According to this old thread . . . Relay & Fuse post #7 says in part . . . The circuit loops through the double fuse block located in the engine compartment on the drivers side with two 16 amp fuses . . .

Edit to add:
Also found an older thread . . . glow plug which in part says in post #3 There are 4 glow plugs, wired in series. If one burns out, none of them will work. If the glow light on the dashboard never glows, a burned out glowplug is a likely cause.

The fuse block is located under the hood on the drivers side near the firewall. It's under a cover held by 2 thumbscrews.

And post #4 There may be an 80 A fuse on the firewall, held down by two thumbscrews (if the GP are operated by the key -- if by the start knob, not there). These can crack, leading to no glowplugs.

Originally they are wired in series and the new way of doing it is in parallel in case one goes out they all wont go out.

That thread concerns a gorilla knob system. The one in question in this thread is a keyed relay system.

I just check each litle box under my hood. I removed the fuses from each box and the turned the key and the relay clicked each time, so im guessing those little boxes aren't tied to the glowplugs.

True, but the system 'looks like' it is wired in series since the wires jump from one plug to the next. It doesn't look like the OE pencil plug system with a separate wire from the relay for each plug. The original series wire gives voltage to the plug near the firewall and wires jumping from that plug to each in turn energize the others.

That other thread references a fuse on the firewall like the 123 models but apparently according to both the OP and the wiring diagram, there is no such fuse on the 115 300d keyed relay system. Fuse must be elsewhere. Have no idea where.
Very odd that it was carrying enough current for loop plugs but doesn't function with pencil plugs.

Maybe its behind the gauge cluster, i'll pull it tomorrow.

Surely this system has to be fused.
