Yesterday I bought more sandpaper and spent a couple of hours before work sanding the StraightLine filler. Then I touched up the bare metal and neutralized rust spots that were sticking through with POR15.

Today when I got home from work it was sunny and nearly 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so I primed the taillight area. The spots where I applied the POR15 were a bit high so I sanded those spots, lightly sanded the primed area, then applied a second coat of primer.

This is good enough for me until maybe in the summer if I decide to work on the rear panel further. For now the surface is smooth and perfectly fits the contour of the taillights. There are no more holes or pitting on the surface to cause water to get into the taillights now, especially with the new seals.

One of the holes that holds on the trim was filled and I will have to drill it at a later time. For now I think the trim will still stay in place without it.

It will be nice to have taillights that are water tight and don't leak water into the bulb holders!

I would love living in the desert, or at least having a heated garage. It sure helps make the job more enjoyable and faster.

At some point I want to repair all rust on the body and repaint the back panel and trunk. I can get DB-716 Grey Beige paint in a spray can from paintscratch.com.

I plan on driving to Utah again in June and taking my dog with me. And possibly my roommate since he's never been there. Maybe I'll even have the A/C working, though it would cost between $300-$500 to get it blowing cold. I don't mind heat, but my roommate wears tank tops when it's below freezing and has steam coming off of his head...

Over the weekend I finished installing the taillights, bulb holders, and trim. I cleaned the bulb connections with the proper brush tool and installed new bulbs with dielectric grease. The taillights use two small bulbs on each side but for some reason only one bulb on each side works?

I love this car! A diesel Fintail is my dream car. I had a W115 240D and didn't think it was too slow, so I think I could handle one Someone gave me two fintail 190Ds once but then changed their mind before I picked them up. They're rusting away in a field in Washington

I've seen those pages. I have considered trying to paint a car like with a roller. For this car I think I will get color-matched paint in a spray can to touch-up the bad areas.

They weren't a blue and a white one, were they? I think one had body damage on one side.

I'm getting tired of the fogged up glass from the dried up weatherstripping leaking. New weatherstripping would cost $1,613 plus tax, though for $819 I can get Uro brand weatherstripping. Ugh. I'm in way over my head with this car.

Any updates, man? I've read your posts and have gleaned a lot of great information from them. I'm considering buying a nice, rust-free, complete W110 200D from '68. Seems like it's in great shape. I'm sure I'll find a ton of things to do to it, if I buy it...

A few questions?
Where do you get your parts? (Tune up stuff, filters, injectors, fast-glow kit, etc? Also, do you know if an improperly adjusted IP could account for a max speed of around 55mpg? He says it pulls to that speed fine, and is not wound out, rpm-wise.

I'm down for an adventure, but I don't want a car with a serious problem...

Thanks for your reply, if you're still a member!
