thinking about rebuilding turbo

I'm pondering rebuilding my worn turbo after reading some threads. I found this site detailing the procedure:

http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?p=2327793

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks,
Brad

the only misleading info I saw was:

--use of a dental pic to remove the inside retainers. (buy/ rent the right tool!!!)

-- balancing of the turbine shaft needs to have very, very clear markings for re-installment.

when tightening the nut on the shaft, it is very difficult to line up the compressor blade with the nut and shaft.

very difficult....

There is some things missing.

The Bearing Bores were not checked; in addition these bearing housings can be holed out for oversized bearings. If a previous owner had exchanged the Turbo it is possible for you to get one with oversized bearings.
For the same reason it is possible to get a Turbine shaft with undersized Journals.

Just like the Piston Grooves on an Engine Piston wear so do the grooves the seal rings ride in on the Turbine Wheel and the other piece with a ring type seal.

He did not speak of the torque at all. On the larger Garrett Turbos (Air Research) the instructions called for the Compressor Wheel to be heated; slid over the Turbine Shaft and Torqued. After it cooled x number of minutes it called for it to be torqued again.

Besides the previously mentiong Bearing Bores the thrust and side play of the turbo were never checked.

I read that thread hoping to see some specs. But, there were none.

On Garrett/Air Research turbos it is als common the shear off the Bolts that go through the Exhaust Housing.

If you follow that threads instructions you can do something something that might be helpful to your Turbo but it will fall short of the term rebuilt.

Is there anyone out there that has the specs on these Tubos?
You would think the rebuild kits would have some instuctions.
