Engine mounts replacement on 300SDL
Looks like both engine mounts are next in my series of catching up on the list of deferred maintenance items on my SDL. I plan on changing the transmission mount at the same time and the engine shocks and grommets on both sides.
I've done the mounts already on my 300D - I'm hoping the steps are similar, though I've never replaced the transmission mount before - not sure what the steps are. I've tried to lookup the FSM procedure on the mounts, but the manual only talked about a function of the motor mounts not how to remove them. I plan on following DieselGiant's steps as part of the oil cooler line replacement process for 617 - I have some questions specific to the SDL: 1) Is it ok to jack up the engine by placing a sturdy block of wood under the oil pan?! The pan is aluminum and the engine is a beast, so I wanted just to make sure. 2) The FSM mentions the engine stop adjustment?! Does my engine have an engine stop that I need to worry about before I start to jack it up? Not even sure what that looks like... 3) How far up should I lift the engine? On my 300D I wasn't sure either and was advised here to take off the fan shroud and jack up until the back of the valve cover hit the firewall - it was a good advice. It worked well. 4) Are there any steps describing the R&R of the transmission mount on the SDL?!
