W123 85 Charging issues

Alternator does not seem to be charging the battery. The idiot light does not come on, however.
Car has ~ 240k. What is likelyhood alternator is bad?
Thanks
Cliff

Inspect the regulator anyway, usually a failed bearing is what kills an alternator, but you never know.

Put a voltmeter on the battery with the engine running and see what kind of voltage you are getting and report back.

Alternator is confirmed OR the idiot light is burned out. You might replace the bulb for the idiot light prior to working with the alternator.

If the problem is the alternator, you might consider removing and replacing the regulator...........could cure the problem without replacing the alternator.
