What cold cranking amps should I look for in my next battery?

Have to buy a battery for the 85 123. But my plan is to put the new battery in my 210 and the batt. from the 210 in the 123. I ASSume they are interchangeable? Advance Auto has a batt. that is 800 CCA for $135, I think the one in the car now is 1000 CCA. What is necessary for SE Virginia's mild climate?

I recently bought this one,http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Gold-Battery,-800-CCA,-Group-Size-49H8-Autocraft_2130012-P_340_S|GRPBATTAM2_1048446183___
The SD has an Interstate with 850 CCA, the car has been in my possession for three years, no battery issues.

Look your vehicle up and see what it calls for in cranking amps. Owners manual - or AutoZone, or Interstate battery's website may have the info easily accessible.

I believe I have the same Interstate. It says "Mega-Tron Plus" on it

I'll have to look at the walmart battery. I can use the $60 for something else. Remember what warranty it has?

Johnson Controls also makes the Walmart Everstart batteries. Along with Diehard, Energizer, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Autocraft....

There are only a few manufacturers of batteries (4 if my info is correct). A poster on another forum used to work for one of them. Apparently, thinner less durable plates are required at 1000 CCA and above. Check required OEM specs & get the most CCA (preferably < 1000) & longest free replacement you can find. I set an early reminder in my calendar & try to force an exchange before then. I just bought 2 (3 yr free exchange) for the diesel ram for $170.

You need a group 49 battery with the highest CCA possible. I like to get 1000 at least. If you live in the south, you can get by with less.

Junkman you are correct. Group 49 refers to the size. The higher the CCA the more (THINNER) anode and cathode plate there are in a given area. I am NOT trying to start a FIGHT, DISCUSSION OR ARGUEMENT.
If the proper group size has a 600,800,and1000 CCA models available the higher the CCAs the faster it will Sulfate the plates(wear out). If an 800 CCA is available use it. Also look at interstate battery. They used to have a free jump if their battery went dead within warrenty period.

My $.02

PS. When I owned My own Trucking company, 3-1200 CCA batteries would wear out before 4-800's.

Hi
Don't waste your money on a junk yard battery - unless you're going to sell the car in a few days. I'm surprised the Wal-Mart Everstart didn't work out. I've known a number of folks who were very pleased with them. Before I bought my Everstart I had an Interstate and it lasted 7 or 8 years

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it that our MB diesels calls for Group 93 batteries?
