Torque Converter - It's Stuck

So I'm trying to do a manual transmission swap on my 190D, and it was all going well until I attempted to remove the transmission. Got all the bolts out and then attempted to pull the transmission. Got it most of the way off but it kept getting hung up....

I then remembered that I needed to unbolt the torque converter, so I removed the 6 bolts on the back of it. But The torque converter remained in place.....

With much swearing and prying, the automatic was finally freed. However the torque converter remains in place and seems completely stuck.

What can I do here?

spray some WD 40 at the top of the TC and with 2 Large prybars rock it side to side BUT CAUTION if U are under it you will end up with a 2 inch hole in your chest its not kind when it drops out onto you -- jz

IIRC the torque converter has a ~2" diameter flange that goes into the flex plate and/or driven plate. That's probably where it's sticking rather than where the bolts attach the torque converter to the flex plate. I mean this to give you a sense of where to aim the penetrant.

easy fix: turn the car on and put it in gear--the torque converter is sure to fly off!

(caution: don't do this)

How do you put the car in gear with the tranny out?

Along those lines, get a good grip on the torque coverter while someone engages the starter
