Have you checked the continuity of each of the wires in the cord?

Kerry, I am completely ignorant of electrical issues. Set to ohms, the needle did not move over the flat parts of the plugs. It DID go to the middle when one probe was inserted in the plug hole and one end on the flat part of the plug. I cut the ground wire in the middle out. Does this tell us anything? Sorry so ignorant.

The 7A, no idea. I guess it is, I don't get over there much.

Sorry my suggestion didn't work

It's hard to follow what you're doing and I'm sorry I am having trouble understanding your problem, but when you stick the probe end of the voltmeter into this

What happens? If the needle doesn't move when set to ohms that is a good thing. Do you remember what number the needle went to when it moved?

Oh and the first time I did this I didn't properly ground my negative wire. My voltmeter can't reach all the way to the negative terminal so I put the negative probe to the top valve cover. The valve cover should have the three pointed star on top!

??? I thought I was trying to get the needle to MOVE. Well, what I know about electricity could fit in an acorn.

I didn't put it in anything that looks like the connector you have -- just tried the orange block heater plug that looks like this:

[ 0 0 ]

New cord arriving today, tonight... will report back.

Got the new cord. Installed it. Plugged it in. No go.

Took it out, reinstalled it, plugged it in, no go.

Finally installed it hot -- screw safety! -- and found that it makes connection slightly angled. Totally prone to coming out when moving, I am certain. I think the last cord left its little insulator sleeve guys still on there or something.

I know all you who've been through this can appreciate that I rested my head on the valve cover for a while and listened to the sweet, sweet low hiss for a while. Best song I've ever heard.

Now we'll see if it all worked.
