MAF part number and will other fit the car?Like a Skoda?

I need a MAF as no boost... there is one from a skoda that look exactly like mine, in and out, will this fit the car?
The question is that the same bosh skoda new cost 60 pounds, the MB bosh "look a like" but for the E300TD cost 200 pounds...
I am wondering if the price tag is just car related ( you pay MB tag) but not efficiency/ performance related?
Cheers.

It should work ok, but the VW one will report a little less air then what is actually being sucked in. How do I know this? Back in the day VW wanted $350 for a TDI MAF. But, one from an E300 was around $120, and worked just fine. Many people installed them trying to save a buck, with good results. If you wanted a little boost in power you could get the MAF from a 2.0 gas powered VW, they report a little more air then the Mercedes one.

I'd be weary of that one though... you shouldn't take the sensor element itself apart.

Any numbers for the 2.0 gas powered VW maf I could look for? Or car brand and year I could type in to get the MAF from a shop?
Cheers.

06A906461A is the part number for the MAF used on the 2.0 gas engine. A parts vendor I shop with has a new one for about $125.

Did you reset the code?

Dude, you're not supposed to break this stuff until we figure out a way around it!

Oh, you need to reset the codes? Damn... I have no OBI or what ever. How do you reset the codes?
I also played ( few days ago)with the contact and got few time a bad electronic warning stopping the car from accelerating. oops...
But all fine on restarting.
My MAF was on its way out I think as the car was having some odd ish idle & at full speed it was like he wanted to go highter but was kind of chocked a little...
I disconnected the battery earlier, would that not reset the codes?
Cheers.

More important than reseting the codes is first "reading" them....... PO243 also causes no boost and is unrelated to the MAF.

The only place I could go and read the codes at the moment would be MB, 50 quids for a quick read...
Can I reset the codes manually or do I need a OBI or a STAR?
Cheers.

If you have any kind of neighborhood chain automotive store, usually, they will read codes for free. At least here in the states... However, since I don't think you have an OBDII connector, it's a little trickier.

The check engine light will also reset itself after 3 successive cold starts and warm up to operating temp. This, as long as the original condition that caused the code has been cured.

In my experience, boost usually returns when the condition is fixed. Even if the CEL is still illuminated.

Hi Evan,
I have been running with no MAF for the last few days, no code on the display but of course no boost, and today the MAF I got is not working either, next week I'll try one from a friend with a similar car. Maybe the MAF I got from fleebay is gone south too or its not working on the car ( as its not the proper type) or something went wrong in the wiring as the Electronic warning came up few times killing all acceleration when I was putting my hands there...
I'll see if anyone can read the code here.
If the code are cleared after 3 times there is something wrong there as I started the car about 5 times with the new ish MAF and still nothing... Humm....
Hopefully its the MAF who's faulty...
Cheers.
Olivier

I forgot to say that I hae checked all the fuses as well, all are OK.

Thank you Jason, the MAF worked after all.
I decided to turn off the EGR MOD just now as I thought I might have blown it and saw that there were more fuse, I forgot about those , and one was burned. I replaced it and all goes, boosting again.
Thank you
Pictures of the fuse, red circled. It was a 10 but as I had any I put a 15.
