I am having the worst time getting that stupid bolt off.

Any tips on getting it out?

Long breaker bar. Jack up the car and put the breaker bar on the plug with one end resting on the ground. Let the car down using the weight of the car to turn the plug. Alternatively, rest the end of the breaker bar in the cup of a hydraulic jack and pump the jack up.
Or, use an impact wrench.

Wonder if a torque multiplier would fit under there?

Torch it. I torched mine, didn't even have to use a breaker bar.

That particular torque multiplier requires a lug bolt in the vicinity to lock it in place.

I'm going to give the impact wrench a try.

While i'm out in the barn i'm going to grab my heat gun and give that a go as well.

I use a 14mm Allen wrench - not just a 14mm hex bit in a 1/2" drive adapter, although that might also work with a short breaker bar. I put the short end in the socket of the plug, but only after cleaning it out good and then, based on some shared wisdom from a poster on this board long ago, I spit on the end going into the socket and dip it in Comet or some other abrasive powdered cleanser. With a light coating of the cleanser on the hex end, I put it in the socket and tap slightly with a hammer to make sure it is seated. Then I use the hammer to loosen the plug by smacking the long end of the Allen wrench firmly and frequently near the end. It requires you position the Allen wrench so you get a good shot at the end. Once it moves it will slowly move about half a turn before it is easy to get the rest of the way out.

Good luck,

Jim

A heat gun might not be enough, I used a propane torch.

We use oxy/propane. Its nearly as good as oxy/acetylene, much cheaper, Its not really a DYI though ! On earth moving equipment we often have bolts that need to be cut off. I have never had to do that on a MB though!!

The blue wrench is one of the most versatile tools in the shop.

What other tool cuts, brazes, heats, gouges, and welds?

I think all I needed was a propane bottletorch for my fill plug but I'd advise taking the cover off before heating it.

Goodness you guys are cracking me up.

Well I found my propane torch, but this is something I am a bit uncomfortable doing especially since all of this equipment was outside in the barn at 0 degrees right now.

Calling in the parents

Edit: A mix of propane torch and breaker bare jack did the trick. Thanks guys!

DAMN.... That thing must have really been on there. You actually had to "jack" the breaker bar?
