1997 was the first overdrive automatic diesel made for the USA market.
1984 was the 1st manual version, 190D 2.2

So does the 2.2 share a bolt pattern with either the 5 or 6 cyl diesels? If not then the first "big" diesel in the US with overdrive is the 97 E300d/auto. Or at least that transmission with the 6cyl 3.0L engine. Is that transmission computer controlled? I think it was 2000 that they went to the advanced bus in the E-class with the up/down switches on the shifter for "manual shifting."
I'm just looking at options here. -Tad

So I can get the om603 and 190e-2.6 (5-speed overdrive instead of the 5-speed non-overdrive from the 16V) and have a great setup. Tempting...
Now I just need to find both pieces... -Tad
