Anyone good at identifying old truck diesels?

Fellow bought a Unimog in Muscat with a non-OE diesel engine installed. Anyone here recognize what kind of diesel it is?

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/unimog/1496421-what-unimog-5.html

He's posted on benzworld and expedition portal looking for info on what he has.

DEF not a CAT

I have worked on Caterpillar diesels for many years, and I can definitely tell you that is not a Cat diesel, not even an old one. The part numbers make it very obvious. CAT has always been very particular about the way that they number their parts, and this def doesnt fit the bill. Other than that, I have no idea what it might be. Cool truck for a grand though. The axles are worth more than that by themselves. Portals are killer offroad, Hummers use a similar design to achieve the ground clearance that they have as well.

Engine was probably installed in the Middle East, making it more likely to be a diesel of European origin I think. The British have been involved there in the past so perhaps it is a British diesel.

I think it is a diesel from Poland or other Eastern European Country

I can't see the engine period, so I can't identify it. Where is it? Not in the videos.

ERK is eastern European I think, Maybe a cousin of a Belarus tractor or Russian tank, I have seen exactly that oil filler/dipstick on them also.
The injection/heater thing on the inlet manifold is common. Perkins have them on their motors, they add diesel vapour to the inlet to aid starting when cold.

He's still trying to figure out what engine it is. He just posted a picture of the IP side of the engine. IP is unusual. It is not an in line pump. It looks to be some kind of rotary pump or at least a pump without the delivery valves in a single line.

Looks a little like what is known as a 'japanese Dodge' engine....

Used to be fitted to Renault Trucks here in the UK. It has a rip-off of a Stanadyne DB2 injection-pump made by Diesel-Kiki....

It shows certain similarities, but the 354 has one head and one valve cover.

I could have sworn the engine pictured in the Unimog has one head and one valve cover?

Kerry,
Just took these of the 6-354 in my truck. Sorry that 1 needs rotating. I would have thought that the unimog would want something with a bit more grunt.
