sensor with two lines front right valve cover
OK, finished putting in the valve stem seals and remanned injectors/return lines. there are two screw in sensors sitting directly to the left of the valve cover near the front of the car (air cleaner side). I accidentally broke off the two line connectors coming out of the sensor nearest the valve cover. so, need to remove and replace with a new one.
question: what size and type of wrench will remove this sensor? it seems to be an 18MM but I am unsure. there is a "round" part just above the part where the wrench would go making it difficult to allow a regular wrench to get a grip. - 1984 300DT |

Which one broke? One of them is a vacuum switch forthe EGR. The other, IIRC, is them temp switch that closes the circuit for the blower motor at a certain temp so that you do not get ice cold air from the HVAC on a cold winter morning start up.
Be prepared as coolant flows quite well from that location. It is either 17 or a 19 mm.

I believe this would be the vacuum switch for the EGR. the two lines connected to a rubber connector sitting on top of the valve cover. is the proper wrench a crows foot design?

I used a box wrench. I also did the EGR delete procedure.
