Tie rod question

Do you want the suspension loaded or unloaded when you remove and replace a tie rod on an 83 SD?

It doesn't matter either way. I have replaced entire tie rod assemblies with the car just sitting on the ground. I have also replaced them with the front of the car elevated. It just simply doesn't matter.

Sounds good. I couldn't remember if one way put it under tension or not.

If you can do it with the tires weighted, it is easier to have the toe be close to where it was before the R&R. Alternatively, measure length before taking it apart. Perhaps count the number of turns when removing.
