Blower motor fuse keeps blowing

I have a 1978 300CD that keeps blowing the fuse for the blower motor. The servo unit is currently bypassed. The defroster has worked just fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now, a fuse may only last a few minutes. I'm not sure where to start looking for a short or another cause. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The brushes in the motor could be worn or worn out. Or, the bearings in the blower motor could be dry. Pretty simple to check these things.

Is it actually "Blowing the fuse" (melting the metal strip)? Or is the plastic part of the fuse melting?

Looks like it is melting the fuse itself, rather than the strip.

first, get some ceramic fuses, they'll last a bit longer than the plastic ones.
then clean the crap out of the fuse holder, get it really bright, I use scotchbright scrubbs...
but that will only delay the problem.
you have to pull the blower motor and repair or replace it.
get some electrical spray, and clean out the bearings, and pack in some lube, and you should be OK for a little while unless the bearings are totally gone.
if they're gone, you gotta bite the bullit and get a replacement motor.

I'll agree with pulling the motor and inspecting, especially the brushes. When worn down severely, it'll draw more amps, blowing the otherwise properly rated fuse.

And how big a deal is that to do, pulling and such?

Shouldn't be difficult at all. I pulled mine in the SD. Remove the lower kick panel below the glove box, the plastic screw on the transmission hump is a 90 degree thing, just turn it a bit, it'll probably stay on the kick panel. Look up, you see three to four screws, remove them and work it off.

Dirty or worn bearings make the motor resist spinning, which will also blow a fuse due to higher amperage draw.
