I'd buy agreed value coverage if it wouldn't restrict my driving but I only found covrage for <2000 mi/yr & then mostly to car shows or meets. I've been able to beat the adjusters to within a reasonable amount but I'm a life & health agent & have to argue with carriers all the time about rates or claims. The process ALWAYS involves understanding why they came to a conclusion & giving them more information contradicting their conclusion.

Jeremy,

A bit off topic, but I'm wondering the reason why you and others block out the registration tag? I don't understand the purpose . . . I've always wanted to ask when I see that done, but always seem to forget by the time I'm done reading . . .

I had to do a double take... I thought it was an Audi at first! An Audi with a star on the hood!

Despite what the detractors might say, it is a fine idea. You may never need it, the insurance company may ignore it, but every weapon you can have when dealing with the other guys insurance company is worth having. If you are forced to go into arbitration or mediation with the insurance company, having a previous independent appraisal is extremely valuable. I know collectors with more than one appraisal per vehicle.

That way someone cannot use the tag atthe DMV to claim a lost title, pay for a new one and then "legally" stake claim to your car. It also helps keep
people from getting personal info via DMV.

So do you drive down the road that way or do thousands of people see and have opportunity to do the same daily?

Just asking, ...

I think you mean blurring out the license plate.

I don't understand it either. I know that journalists and the like will blur out celebrities' license plates and people who didn't have waiver signed. But in this instance it's kinda pointless.

But hey it's your privacy. Do as you please.

An excellent point.

It's perhaps a little over the top.

Yeah, I mean if that is the worry about somebody needing a "replacement" title I would think that you would need more than the plate number . . . (maybe name, address, DL # and vin?) or otherwise like mentioned above . . . everybody driving down the road is open to that scam . . .

Just found at our AZ MVD site:
9) How do I apply for a duplicate title and what is the fee?
When an Arizona title is lost, mutilated or becomes illegible, you, the owner of record, may apply for a duplicate title. Owner name, legal status, lienholder and vehicle information must remain the same. Only the address and/or vehicle location address may be changed.

You must complete a Title and Registration Application, form # 96-0236, (see #6 for legal status explanation), check the appropriate box at the top of the form. Only one owner’s signature is required, regardless of the number of owners or legal status.

You may submit the application at any MVD of authorized Third Party office or by mail to Mail Drop 555M, Motor Vehicle Division, PO Box 2100, Phoenix AZ 85001-2100.

The fee is $4.00. Photo identification may be required for walk-in customers.

The mutilated or illegible title must be surrendered at the time of application, when available; it is not necessary for the owner to sign-off the back of the title.

When the record shows a lien, the duplicate title will be sent to the lienholder of record, unless you present a lien clearance or power of attorney from the first lienholder of record and there are no other liens present on the vehicle record.

Tags are visible to anybody on the street. If it were all that easy to do this, there'd be a lot of expensive luxury cars out there with multiple titles.

I always considered it personal info. The less I put on the public Internet, the better. I wouldn't want distant thieves to use it to target my car, or to to scam someone.
