Speedometer on the blink

Past few days the speedo has been acting a little screwy. At seemingly random times it will drop towards zero for no more then a second, often it doesn't even turn off long enough to reach zero but will drop down and shoot back up to my speed. The speed is reading accurately it just blinks off every so often. It sounds like a loose electrical connection to me. I've checked the power and sensor feed behind the cluster and have checked/cleaned all the fuses with no change. What should I check next?

This happened on my 84 300SD.
The cylindrical magnetic sensor that plugs into the transmission
had fallen out. The screw that bolts it to the transmission was missing.
It had been held in there for who knows how long just by its magnetic force.

A super easy fix, indeed.

Jeff
