Rear window defroster

It stopped working. The fuse is good, but the red light on the rocker switch does not illuminate. My wife thinks the clock quit at the same time, that fuse is good also. Any ideas?

Thanks

Might be the convenience control module in the fusebox (large one in the center) that times the rear defog. Does the light come on briefly when you push the button (indicates the module is bad)?

The clock could be a coincidence or a bad ground. Check ground W1, behind the instrument cluster, on the left. Also confirm that the fuses are good by actually removing them, checking for hairline cracks, cleaning the ends, etc.

x2, you often cannot tell just by looking at them.

if the fuse is truly good (take it out, it may be burnt on the ends)

then you should check the relay for the rear defroster

take it out and shake it around the put it back in OR you could put a known-good relay and see if it now works.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out this weekend. Meanwhile, one of the rear doors got jammed open, I took off the liner but couldn't see or feel anything, finally forced it closed. It opens and closes now but the two firm positions it used to have (where it would hold partway open and then all the way open) are now very weak, and it takes a tad more effort to close it all the way. I am thinking there must be a plastic bushing that broke, but it's impossible to see in there since there's no cutout where the hinge strap enters the door.

I have a set of FSMs which I will start reading tonight.

I did just that Ben, I shook it around and banged it against my screwdriver handle, put it back in, and now she works! I don't know for how long though, maybe I should order a new one?

Thanks

I knew I was good for something.

I suggest you start hunting for a good used one as a spare and keep it the glove box. Don't pay more than $20 for it.
