Glow Plug Relay compatibility
Hello All,
I have a bad glow plug relay, tried to fix myself but made it worse I have a 82 240D, and want to go to the junkyard to grab a "new" one. Their inventory shows that they do not have any 240's, but have 300 series cars years 83,84,88,and 89. Would any of those cars (probably the 83) have a compatible glow plug relay? I know those are all 5 cyl cars, and mine is a 4 cyl, but I read somewhere long ago that they have the same or compatible relay. Anyone know for sure? |

There were changes in relays during this time: some 4 prong, some 5 prong, some fast glow, etc. It's not so much whether the relay is for a 240 or 300, it is more the type of glow plugs, etc. Take your original relay and try to match it at the salvage yard or, if you are sure it is the relay you can always spend the $120ish to buy a new replacement.
All this being said, I am sure someone with a more exacting recommendation will chime in shortly.

Then most 300's including the SD from '77-85 should be looked at for that relay. There may be some variations but, for the most part, that's your hunting grounds.
