Yep, forgot that one.
I was gonna check into if I could use the tandem pump for the older sls
Do you know it it produces the same pressures ?

Looks like this car will need a new engine or an engine rebuild. We've got a little too much going on in our lives right now to deal with this, plus, our '85 300CD still runs beautifully (on whatever fuel). We are entertaining offers on the 1987 300TD as of right now. Car is located in the Boston, MA area. Interior is near-perfect, all electronics work, only change is lots of new stereo equipment w/iPod hookup, chassis outstanding, paint wonderful...I'm going to be sad to let this one go. Please feel free to message me privately if you are interested.

Thumbs up 1987 603 Diesel

The problem could very well be the vacume deverter valve stoped up inside the valve cover building up to much vacume and forcing the oil out, there is also a bleed hole on the back up the valve cover pasenge rside a very small hole sometimes hard to see if covered with oil, this is a vent hole, it should not be stoped up,( this is a closed system) , not like the older systems, I have seen this before it will start building way to much vacume and pushes the oil out every where.. just my thoughts,if it were rings it would blow oil out of the tail pipe, if it were turbo it would bellow out black smoke constantly, valve seals smoke at start up a little, doubt very serously it is the rings, or turbo,if it builds up to much vacume in the system it will start by passing the gaskets to exit block somewhere, rear main, pan, seals, ect.

Final diagnosis came in July 2010: blow-by in cylinders 2-3-4. A rebuild was way too expensive. Happily, one of this forum came to our rescue!!! We bought his non-running '87 300D sedan and shipped it up here to MA. The engine-swap is being performed as I write this. I will keep you all posted. Anyone want the old engine?
