Seats...

I was thinking of replacing the original seats with something more comfortable like Chevy Impala seats.

Anyone done something similar?

More comfortable? Maybe throw a layer of memory foam on them and try that.

My seats haven't been molested (yet) but are some of the most comfortable seats I've sat in. You can't beat springs!

BMW.

Ten-way manual seats from a 318is. Had to fab some custom brackets. Huge improvement over the beat down stock seats in the '84 300D Euro I had for a while. Kept the seats when I sold it.

My advice would be to look for some from a 124. You may have to switch the rails.... Put some from a 2.6l gasser in my '87. As supportive as the bimmer seats, but springy on the bottom. LOVE em'.

Jay.

I simply put a set of good sheepskins on mine and it made a huge difference. Don't opt for just the cheap one size fits all type. You need to get the kind made specifically for Mercedes seats.

ok, thanks for the good ideas.
the reason i picked Impala seats was the Impala i had, i could drive to Vegas and not be tired at all.
Last weekend it got real painful on my lower back ... and i wished i had better seats.
But, the car ran flawless all the way there and back. Even had to wake up the air conditioner too.
anyway, thanks again,
r

Maybe your MB seats are just worn out, and need rebuilding. I have dismantled a number of seats, and at least on the Chevy/GMC products I've done, they are CHEAP. Very thin metal, and cardboard. Maybe GM wised up, and the Impala seats are much improved, but MB seats are built well.

Yes, rebuild them with the proper MB replacement pads, and repair or replace any broken springs. W123 seats are exceptional when they aren't sagging, leaning or otherwise worn out. It'll take an afternoon and several hundred $$. You can get a used replacement seat spring from any decent MB dismantler if yours is broken. The springs are interchangeable from passenger to driver's side.
