IP timing. tool vs lining up teeth.
I am in the process of installing the injection pump on my project wagon motor. Now i have a tool that screws into a port on the side of the pump, however when it is installed, the mark on the pump housing is not lined up with the space in the teeth. This is where i am confused. do i go with the tool, or with the teeth? Not too much info on the tool out there so i though i would ask.

My 2 cents worth
Greetings,
I replaced the IP on my '81 300D non-turbo. What I am saying may not apply to the turbo. It's been a few years but my recollection is that timing is done by setting the crank to the appropriate location and then turning the IP, when it is in place but not fully tightened, until fuel STOPS coming out of a modified injector line. I believe the check valve is temporarily removed and a short, "J" shaped tube is then screwed on the port without the check valve and fuel will be freely flowing. The IP is rotated to the point that the flow stops. I know I am vague it's just been too long. Hopefully what I have said will help. The Good Dr. |

The teeth do not line up because when you use the Locking Pin/Tool it is timed at a different spot.
When you use the Fuel Injection Pump Locking Pin/Tool the Fuel Injection Pump is installed with the Pointer showing 15 Degrees ATDC (After Top Dead Center; passed the Compression Stroke on number 1 cylinder) on the Cranshaft Damper degree marks. This info should be somewhere in our DIY Section. DIY Repair Links http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diy-links-parts-category/ http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/DoItYourSelf
