Compression test ?

I have a motor that I got from the guy that I bought my car from. (1984 190D) Can I do a compression test on that motor while it is out of the car? If so, how do I do the test? Thanks.

You need to be able to spin it using the starter motor. All GP's or injectors should be removed as well.

A Drill...?

Err, No!

Easy enough to chuck a starter on there providing the flywheel/flexplate and engine back-plate is fitted...

Needs to be the starter, as this runs the engine at the appropriate speed to check compressions....

You could do a leak down test instead... actually tells more in some ways if there is a problem... indicating whether it is rings/lower end or head/valves. and does NOT require the use of the starter.... can be moved into position for each bore with a 27 mm deep socket and breaker bar...
