I need a wagon. I have this fantasy about a white 300TDT with a blue stripe down the side and using it as my parts runner...

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see each of your pictures. Here's mine, 293k, alive and kicking thanks in large part to Sixto's guidance (walking me through a new headgasket at 287k for the #20 head (rebuilt) it came with, rebuilt turbo, all replaced in the driveway) - it sings! Bought at 270k-something miles for $3500 with these rash-free chrome wheels (the Thule's and window tint are new everything works, except maybe the headlight wipers, and I'll get a new tranny someday that'll do smooth cold shifts. Other than that is is my 'German pick up truck' (to quote my friend, Jack, in SLO who also has one.) Latest project was new front seats from a gold-emblemed e320 found at my local recycler (I wish I knew how to link to my seat replacement post). I'm really liking the new seats' ride.

just open that post, and copy the line in the top address window of your browser, and paste it into the reply windows.
or if you are looking at the thread in a search list, just right click on the headline, and copy then paste into a reply window.

Here is a photo of my newly installed/swapped seats from a much newer e320. Also note the wood trim on the doors (they came to me stock. Was it am option?) I also got the e320's armrest minus phone = extra glove compartment, (and I got the as yet uninstalled center console wood and roll-top box, the e320 center console wood does not have the cutout for the '87 speaker front/back roll knob.) Before bolting the e320 seatpad to the 300TD base, I stuffed a thick wad (made from 4 pieces of X .5" closed foam) under the front bolster to support my thighs better.

I'm doing this also, from my 93 parts car.
love the extra storage caddies!
BEWARE the console wood holes for the switches are a tad tight. easy to jam a switch in the up position. I suggest reaming the holes a tad. ya DON"T wanna burn up a window motor!

No, the door wood was not available in '87. It came in '90-up, along with the leather door panels (in leather interiors), wood strip on the dash, leather wheel, leather shifter, and (leather or 'tex) pockets on the seatbacks to replace the nets.

My '87 is also receiving these updates, hard to be without them once you're used to seeing them IMO. Put them all in my last '87, really dress it up. Not sure whether to do the body cladding and '95 nose update, ... I'll have to look at it with the new wheels and see what matches.

If only I had the time to complete this journey.

No kidding. These are some beauties. But hey, i didn't want that "Mercedes driver" treatment anyway. You know the looks at the pump and at lights when you drive such a stately car. One guy told me when I was looking under the hood at a fuse very politely that there was a fuse box inside as well. He just assumed I would not know much about the car since i was rich. Lol. I drive Mercedes cause they are cheap.

So in these pics you're looking at 5250.00 in cars -- 4500.00 for wagon with tinted windows and trailer hitch, no working ac even though it was said to have working ac, a little rust being an Indianapolis car its whole life, -- worst in rear wheel wells where drains got plugged. Supposedly only 130,000 miles. #14 head, cracked dash. Anyway, it was worth 4500.00 to me and i don't mind giving someone a fair price on a good car especially when they have that much in it. The black 93 2.5T was only 750.00 so if I overpaid for my wagon, this made up for it.

What's the deal?

What's the deal with these offset wheels? It's the way the lug bolt either recesses too far or sticks out right? I put on my spare on my 93 and the lug bolts go to far in. I've also seen lug nuts that have like double the size of a bolt head that must be made for rims like my spare. What's the deal?

the bolts are made to fit the offset from the rotor face to the wheel face.
the double bolts are for the 126 offset wheels. the short bolts are for the steel spare, the medium length bolts are for the 124 wheel. you want the head to sit flush with the face of the wheel, and the threads should thread at least 10mm into the rotor.

So you come up to Indy for a TD, and I haul a trailer to Nashville for a TD. Sounds like we both could've saved a bit of driving and I'd have a hitch ...

A couple of new photos:
New vac pods, new steering wheel, new dash, '95 blinkers, new wheels, refreshed suspension, ... getting closer.
