I don't have nitrogen but have argon and oxygen. Will either one of those work and if not, why not?

For purging? I don't mean to run the compressor with oxygen in it and fully evacuate before running it. I know the warning about mixing oxygen and oil in an oxygen regulator. In real life, what has to be done with oil to cause an explosion with pure oxygen? Any other opinions on Argon as a purge gas?
