Anyone know a good MB mechanic in Seattle, Portland, OR, or Hood River, OR?

I'm travelling and would like to have someone address a drivetrain clunking/chattering before I get too far along. I'd tackle it myself if I was home with my tools, I suppose.

Also, any thoughts about potential collateral damage with noise like this (intermittent, usually worst with acceleration).

Many thanks!!

Try Craigslist

Laugh as you may, I've found some good mechanics from Craigslist. Post an ad to see who works on "cars" and "Mercedes". Put both words in your ad.

I've found many general mechanics who do a good job on my car. If it's more of a refined problem, then I have to go to a Mercedes specialist.

Good luck.

You might try Bob's BenzNMore owned by Bob Field. (206) 242 2449 by appointment only. He is in Burien, WA a subburb of Seattle.
He does excellent work and a nice shop.

What model and year of MB? First thought that comes to my mind is flex disks. Getting it up on a lift will tell you more.

I've used "BURBACK MOTORS, Mike and Pam
Burback, 71 S.E. Main, Portland, Oregon. Phone
(503)236-1737", which I found via the listings here on this site. I've not had them do a lot of work because doing all the maintenence on my car was part of my contract with myself when I bought it. However, what I have had done was done very well.

I decided if ever there was something I couldn't handle on my own, these are the folks I'd take it to.

I have talked to Mark Gobel. owner of Lake Side Motors in Tigard. He has been a Mercedes tech for years and knows the older MB.
I haven`t had the shop do work for me, but when we are visiting our Daughter I usually stop in and visit. have a clean shop and there is always a lot of MB filling the lot.
I have seen some Classic older MB in there form time to time.

they are on 7390 sw Bonita rd./sw 74th ave Tigard, Or

Thanks, everyone.

and RML: Interesting thought about the flex disks. It's a 79 300td, sorry I didn't include this info initially.

Cheers!

it's an axle shaft

Hi, thanks everybody.

This is embarrassing, but I'm pretty sure it's noise from a halfshaft, whose shredded boot I somehow didn't see. The flex disks look ok to me, and I think unless it's a huge coincidence, it's got to be the exposed joint (for the moment, I'm just dosing the connection with gear oil every chance I get).

Thanks again,

Brad
