Went to new orleans today and bought 82 300td wagon. When I test drove it in NO there was a clicking in back under light acceleration. 1 cv boot was busted so I filled it with 80/90 and ziptied the end. 100 miles down the road I have a loud high speed chirp. I checked the rear diff it's full of clean oil. Any sugestions.

Bushes or mounts? Maybe a wheel bearing but not so likely. Or maybe a bird in the spare wheel compartment.
The shaft with the bad boot will probably be toast unless you got to it before dirt got in.

Its probably a bad half shaft/ cv joint. Unless it starts vibrating really badly a little chirping probably would not stop me. I woudl proceed at reduced pace though. How far to home?

Found it from listening I was con vinced it was left rear. So I poked a hole in the left outer cv boot right next to little band. Put a straw on a can of spray grease and shot the whole can in the boot. Noise is gone and I made it home. Thanks for the answers
