w123 oil pan bolt torquing question

I'm getting ready to put the oil pan back on my 1985 300TD with a new gasket.

I've read that the bolts need to be torqued to:

Oil pan bolts 9-11 Nm (6-8 Ft Lbs 79-97 Inch Lb )

My torque wrench goes from 5-80 ft. lbs. in .5 lb increments.

Should I start at 6 and work a pattern around the pan tightening each bolt? Is there a recommended tightening pattern or do you just try to star pattern it the best you can like lug bolts and just keep tightening them up to 8 ft. lbs if there are leaks?

I may be making more out of this than I need to, but I would like to make sure I get a leak free oil pan on the first try. The oil pan was a leaking mess prior to this and leaked heavily along the entire back straight edge.

You must still be suffering from getting a face full of crud, haha.
The FSM doesn't specify any particular order, but I would do a normal pattern, middle out.
I wouldn't even bother with a step torque, just set it to 8 ft. lbs.
Let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys. I'll report back, I'll go with the 8 ft. lbs. and just go for it.

Well...you know, don't get it too tight or it will leak.

This is all Coda's fault. She drives so amazingly, that I couldn't tolerate my wagon's condition any longer.

I hope all this work will help me regain my love for the Red Dragon. The more I drive Coda, the smoother things seem to get. The trans is shifting normally but still pops a bit when going from park to reverse. The new shifter rod bushings helped lessen that a great deal.

Anyway, back to the wagon ... I'll get to this tomorrow evening and continue progressing with the rest of my long list of repairs for the TD.
